〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Saint Walker
CHARACTER AGE: Unspecified (assumed to be approx. in his 30s)
CANON ORIGIN: Green Lantern: The Animated Series
CHRONOLOGY: Post-episode 17
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Randomly housed with roommates, please!
BACKGROUND: Note: I've taken little bits and pieces of Saint Walker's backstory from the comics, but it's restricted to his life on Astonia, which is never seen on-screen.
In the middle of the galaxy, there is a planet called Oa, and on that planet, there are the Guardians: small, blue-skinned, omniscient beings that have appointed themselves as the protectors of order in the galaxy. In their efforts to uphold peace, they created robots called Manhunters to patrol the galaxy, but something went terribly, terribly wrong. The Manhunters misconstrued their duty to maintain order as one to destroy all emotions on the basis of their unpredictability. They were eventually shut down, but not soon enough; before the Guardians managed to get them under control, they had already managed to destroy life on several planets.
One of these planets was Ysmault, home of a man by the reassuring name of Atrocitus. Enraged by the destruction of life on his homeworld, Atrocitus founded the Red Lantern Corps which was, fittingly, an organization whose Power Rings were fueled by the wearer's hatred. In his quest for vengeance, he swore to attack other planets who would not pledge allegiance to him and his organization, and to his quest to destroy the Guardians and all the planets that they took ownership over. In the meantime, the Guardians had realized their mistake and had created a new, living team of peacekeepers called the Green Lantern Corps, but the damage was done.
Which is where Saint Walker comes in! On the planet of Astonia, Saint Walker lived a happy, peaceful life. He lived with his wife, his two children and his father, and maintained close ties with the rest of the community as their religious leader. This happiness was unfortunately cut short as the Red Lanterns attacked and, once Astonia refused to cooperate, destroyed Saint Walker's entire planet. Saint Walker himself was seized from his planet before its destruction for reasons unknown, and would have likely been killed if not for the fact that the sentient planet of Mogo intervened.
Put simply, Mogo is a planet with control over its environment and gravitational field and maintains the ability to talk. It's one of the sillier parts of the canon, so... just roll with it! Mogo uses his gravitational field to pull in all sorts of awful people and shipwreck them on his shores, making sure that they will never be able to return to doing harm again. Saint Walker was merely a casualty of this practice as the ship he was carried off with fell onto Mogo's soil, but Mogo was not unkind; in Saint Walker's darkest hours, strained by grief, Mogo nurtured him, making sure that he had food to eat and water to drink. Slowly but surely, Saint Walker was able to recover from his loss, something for which he will forever be grateful to Mogo for.
He lived on Mogo for some time as something of a nomad until a ship of Green Lanterns arrived, a Green Power Ring with them. Green power rings are granted to those of great will, but Saint Walker denied its call, feeling that he had to forge a different path. Once the Green Lanterns left (and the Green Power Ring went to Mogo, the first and only sentient planet to be given superpowers), Mogo bid Saint Walker to climb the highest peak on his surface to find the saviour, the one to end the Red Lanterns' rampage for once and for all. It was an emotional test as much as it was a physical one; with Red Lanterns present on the planet, Saint Walker had to show his mettle to resist the temptation of striking out to gain his own revenge instead of staying true and continuing to climb.
Once he had successfully resisted this urge and climbed to the top of the mountain, he found absolutely nothing. Despite this fact, he swore that he would not give up hope for a brighter day, and in doing so, found himself rewarded with the first ever blue power ring, an item that is powered solely through the hope of its wearer. And so, he was the first ever member of the Blue Lantern Corps.
Using this ring, he flew out to assist the Green Lanterns in their fight against the Red Lanterns, and with the help of Mogo and another Green Lantern, halted the flight of the Red Lanterns' armada. Long story short, negotiations were made between the Red and Green Lantern Corps, the Green Lanterns Corps agreed to make amends for the losses that the Red Lanterns suffered, and the Red Lanterns agreed to stop the war.
Saint Walker's journey was far from over. Using his blue power ring and with assistance from a rogue Guardian by the name of Ganthet, he sought out others who had great hope within them and started the Blue Lantern Corps on the planet of Odym. There, they train and meditate, and swear to bring healing throughout the galaxy through the power of hope.
Basically, he's building a planet full of giant hippies with superpowers, but nobody tell him that.
PERSONALITY:
Above all else, Saint Walker is a man - alien - of peace. He is of the belief that all beings are deserving of second chances, no matter what their crimes may be, and is willing to act as a guide in order to get them there. He's a huge believer of rehabilitation and reform, which is particularly notable in his desire to help Razer, a clearly marked member of the Corps that had destroyed his planet. A belief in redemption is often philosophical in nature, but Walker puts his money where his mouth is, and reaches out to anyone who will accept his help, and many who will not. Whether or not one buys into the enlightenment that Saint Walker has found for himself, it has granted him great serenity, and that's something that he seems to effortlessly emanate no matter where he may be.
While these traits make him an excellent mentor and leader as he is invested in the lives of others and will continue to push and prod them to better themselves, it does mean that he can appear rather distant from his fellows. His hope burns as intensely as any other emotion, but it is a cold burn rather than a hot one; for a man powered by emotion, he's able to think concisely and objectively about most of what he's presented with. Above all else, he has great resilience, having lived through the destruction of his planet and loved ones and - with the help of Mogo - making it to the other side not unscathed, but as whole and decent a man as he was before.
Saint Walker does view the world through a very specific lens, and this makes it very easy for one to dismiss him as simply a zen mentor, existing in a bubble for the sole purpose of the betterment of others, but that's not the case. He regards simple pranks with frank amusement, and quite enjoys side-stepping and obscuring his answers with jest for no apparent reason other than the fact that he thinks it's funny to watch other people stumble around. He says everything with a smile, and it just makes it all the more difficult to ascertain whether or not he's making fun of someone, though quite often, that's exactly what he's doing. He's a man who enjoys the simple things in life, and one of these simple things just happens to include watching travelers get gently tossed around at the whims of nature and then loudly laughing at them. He's playful with friends and strangers alike, and once these strangers do inevitably become his friends, he finds great joy in their company.
Being a man of peace does not mean that he's not capable of war, however, and he is willing to take swift action when the situation calls for it and to plunge into almost-certain death in order to do what he perceives to be the right thing. It may be used in extreme situations alone, but Saint Walker will kill if he thinks that the circumstances demand it.
POWER:
1. Alien Physiology: This one's pretty simple! It means that he'll be able to keep his alien form. He's a little lighter and more agile in this form, but that's about all it will do for him.
2. Blue Power Ring: This one's not as simple, so let me break it down! As long as Saint Walker has hope, his power ring will remain fully charged. This will grant him the powers of:
Flight
Protective Aura: Allows Saint Walker to comfortably survive in hostile conditions such as space
Limited Energy Constructs: Much like the Green Lanterns, a blue power ring allows for the creation of energy constructs, albeit on a much lesser scale. These mostly take the form of lasers and forcefields on the battlefield, and are otherwise used for the creation of small objects like a ball or a lute.
Green Lantern Augmentation: Blue Lanterns are able to 'supercharge' Green Lanterns or anything made up of Green Lantern energy.
Green Lantern Augmentation (2): The power of a Blue Lantern is also augmented by proximity to a Green Lantern. Their abilities remain very much the same, only much stronger. For even more power, Saint Walker is able to siphon huge amounts green lantern energy focused on him through his ring for an incredibly powerful blast. Doing so will exhaust him, and he'll be pretty much useless after that.
Red Lantern Corruption: Red Lantern rings don't work when in proximity with a Blue Lantern ring.
The Blue Lantern ring is not sentient, but it is an AI, and possesses the ability to scan Saint Walker's surroundings for living beings, translate languages, and to provide Saint Walker with basic information (though nothing more than he'd be able to receive from the DCU version of google).
He will only be able to use these powers as long as he has hope, and as long as he's currently wearing the ring.
3. Healing: I'm taking this straight from the comics, more or less! He will only have access to these abilities while wearing the power ring, and while he still has hope.
Physical healing: Saint Walker will be able to heal injuries, though it will take concentrated effort and energy on his part. He will be able to help fairly severe injuries, but anything life threatening will be beyond him. It will function as regrowth of existing cells alone, which means no regenerating limbs for him!
Emotional healing: This will only be used with permission! Accompanied by a soothing aura, Saint Walker's power ring will be able to read another character's hopes, and produce an energy-replication construct of the scene as a way of emotionally bolstering his companions (though this could backfire). He cannot read their hopes himself; he will only be seeing it as his ring reproduces it.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: Good afternoon.
[Hey there, Mask or Menace. Greeting you today is someone who's distinctly alien in nature, from his smooth, pale skin to his wide, black, bug-like eyes blinking fondly into the camera, two sets of eyelids flitting across them as he blinks, one after the other.]
I have been informed that this device is used to communicate with those of you who share my circumstances. That said, it is very nice to meet you all! This is my first time on Earth, and I must say, it's quite remarkable. [He takes a moment to glance off-camera for but a moment. It's clear from the backdrop that he's sitting on a rooftop, and that he's looking down at the streets below.] Quite remarkable indeed... though, as I've been thoroughly informed, many find my appearance to be just as remarkable.
[He doesn't sound too unhappy about that fact, however; to the contrary, his eyes crease as he gives the communicator a merry little smile.]
I must admit, however, that all this smoke and concrete isn't quite to my tastes. If any of you have found a sanctuary from the city, I would be glad to hear it. Some trees, I think, would do this place some good.
